Puppies??

Have just got back from Surrey where Rhonda has had a second good mating with Hunter (CH Taladayga the Entertainer). So fingers crossed we will have the patter of tiny paws at the end of Feb 09.
This is a repeat of a mating in 2007 where Rhonda produced 7 very nice puppies - picture is of 1 of them.

Another couple of pictures

Couldn't resist adding these. I don't know of many tom cat who have the temperment of Manuel and are happy to cuddle up with Basil- a neutered male and a bunch of pushy kittens.

Just a couple more piccies

1st vaccination

Kittens all had their 1st vaccinations on Saturday and "touch wood" none appear to have suffered any side effects. They have proved to be a really nice litter of kittens both because they have had absolutly no health problems and because they are all such fantastic little charactors.

Not long now until they start the next chapter in their lives when their new owners collect them. I know I will miss their energetic games in the evening when I'm trying to watch tv, I won't miss them using my legs as scratch posts!

This is the last lot of babies for this year, my next planned litter will be apricot standard poodles in the spring.

I have tagged on a recent photo of Martha (looking very scruffy) for those that may be interested in how Dollars summer litter of pups are developing.

Kitten update

l Kittens are coming on really well. All have got homes waiting for them. They are eating like pigs.
They are able to make anything part of a game and that includes my old std poodle 'Lilly' who seems to double as a springboard and a very comfy rug! Pictures taken today, kittens 6 1/2 weeks old.

Playtime

The kittens are taking over! Wherever you go in the house it seems you are accompanied by 1 or more kittens, invariably trying to climb up your legs - thick jeans are the order of the day. They are an absolute joy to watch investigating everything. Even their dad "Manuel" is taking an interest in them, giving them the occasional wash.

Kittens

Sybil has done it again - on 06.09.08 she delivered 5 beautiful kittens. This was not a planned litter but unfortunatly whilst I was in hospital in June she started calling and Manuel noticed before Graham did and so 9 weeks later we have the patter of tiny paws.

She has produced a real mixture of colours this time 2 boys and 3 girls. They will be ready to leave here in the 1st week of December.

Pups in their new homes

Just a quick update and some photos of this years puppies in their new homes. All are reported to have settled in well and training is progressing nicely. The Photos show from top left to bottom, Jack at 5 months, Billy with mate, Yogi in the New Forest, Zac and spotty friend and Martha. Martha, my pup from Dollar is a joy to live with. She is proving very bright (as are all poodles!) and is very happy to learn in return for a bit of ham. We are making slow progress with regard car sickness - we can now travel approx 10 mins before she is sick, room for improvement I feel.

It is lovely to hear how pups are doing as they grow up and pictures are always a bonus, thanks to all that have kept in contact. I do have photos of some of the other pups but have yet to download them.

Martha

This is Martha, she is the puppy I will be keeping. All the others have now found new homes and with the exception of Inga (who is waiting to be collected when her mum comes back from holiday) they have all settled in well. All pups travelled long distances to their new homes and most reported good journeys - typical I appear to have kept the bad traveller, I took Martha for her 1st car ride today and she was soaked with saliva and vomited twice within 5 minutes!

I am looking forward to photos of the puppies in their new homes in due course and will post the occasional update on here.

First appointment at the hairdressers.

6 Weeks old today so decided to start clipping some of the pups. Some will be going to their new homes in a little over a week so I will leave clipping them until they are about to go. Those that were clipped behaved beautifully- a little shocked I think, next time they will know what's coming and may not sit quite so still.
They have all got fantastic coats now and they all move like a dream.
Their personalities are developing well now, some are naughtier than others (Magnus' owners have got a real rascal!). All are bold little puppies and getting through a doorway without a puppy following is becoming more and more of a challenge.
I still have two boys looking for their new homes, it's such a shame as they are gorgeous, but all the recent enquiries have been for bitches.
Taking photos is also becoming tricky as they don't stay still, but I did manage a couple which show the colour change.

Learning about the outside world

The pups have started to discover the great outdoors and the fact that there are dogs other than poodles! Purdie( our GSD) is proving to be just as good as an auntie as she was a mum. Although they love exploring new surroundings their stamina leaves something to be desired. We have had visits from some of the pups new owners, who have travelled for several hours, and after 10/15mins all they had to look at was sleeping babies!!

Their coats are continuing to show subtle signs of going silver particularly around the head and feet, but even their bodies have taken on a blueish shade- can't wait to see them after their first bath and clip. It might help me decide who I am going to keep.

Dollar has had a rough couple of days, yesterday morning everything was fine but early evening she developed acute mastitis, huge swollen teat, temp approaching 105 and shivering, rushed her to the vets where she was given the relevant treatments and after a further visit today she appears more comfortable. Through all this she has chosen to continue to nurse her babies who continue to thrive.

Video footage

The puppies are now starting to interact, they are already making their way off their bed to wee on the paper! The silver colouring is slowly developing from their pads upwards. A little video to show they can move!!

Developing nicely

Mum and babies are doing very well, Dollar is proving to be a devoted mum and is still spending most of her time feeding and cleaning her puppies- she doesn't even seem that worried about missing her walks at the moment (though with the weather as it is I'm not really surprised). The other dogs are very keen to say hello to the pups but Dollar is not allowing that yet.
The puppies have just started to open their eyes and they are getting up on their legs now, a bit wobbly still but getting stronger every day. They still look like black puppies but if you look carefully you can see they are slightly lighter in colour around the eyes and near the nose and the underside of their feet are silver.

Poodle puppies

Dollar my stunning silver standard poodle has had her 1st litter. I thought I had it all planned as I had to go into hospital for an operation on 27.06.08 and she was due to whelp on 01.07.08 but of course she had other ideas and sure enough on the morning I was due to go in her temp dropped, she refused her breakfast and started panting. I obviously didn't want to leave her but having waited several years for my surgery could not afford to cancel so my husband Graham was left to supervise. His daughter and her new boyfriend were also staying for the weekend and between them they coped brilliantly and 7 healthy puppies were delivered in just 4 hours- well done to all!

Dollar is proving to be a very natural mum, she has 3 boys and 4 girls. They have some of the best silver breeding behind them so I have high hopes for some very special babies. As with all silvers they are black at birth but should start to show silver when they have their first face feet and tail clip at about 5/6 weeks.

Quieter now?

All Purdies babies have new homes now, the last little girl is just waiting for her new mum and dad to collect her when they return from their holiday. But just as you think things are getting back to normal Sybils babies start to make themselves heard.

She is back down to her own three now as her foster babies have returned home but it feels like we still have five as they cause havoc around the home, they have discovered the pleasure of a warm lap in the evening and are becoming very affectionate kittens -don't tell my husband but I am very tempted to keep one of the girls!

Saturday 7 June 2008

leaving home

Most of Purdies babies are now in their new homes, their new families have all been very pleased with their new additions, on the whole they are clean overnight and well on the way to being fully housetrained. I have had lots of comments about how bomb proof the pups are which is great to know. I am still looking for homes for the last three girls, 2 are very short coated and 1 has a slightly fuller coat. Thay are all bold as brass and crave attention. The following was contained in an email from the new home of one of the puppies:.Anway, he's a little star, so incredibly good and well adjusted, it's almost like he has been here before. He is eating very well - until he's full - then hestops. He is nearly there re his toilet training and piddles as soon as we put him outside, a little way togo re the other but very good with that too. He is fine in his lovely crate that Mart made especially for him, and he knows the word no and comes when he'scalled it's brilliant. He is fine with our cats andthey with him, mostly! All of the above is down to you and his beautiful mumPurdy, I hope she hasn't grieved too much for any ofthem? and I hope you are okay too, I know I could not have said goodbye to him with as much control as you did!

Ears are on the way up!

Puppies are continuing to grow at an alarming rate- eating me out of house and home. Their appearance is also changing- they are far heavier now, real chunky monkeys and their ears have started to prick. They are into everything, my daughter is learning the hard way that anything left in their reach gets chewed.

Thursday 1 May 2008

Dangerous Brian- the Albino kitten.

Sybil has 2 new babies to care for. Her sister had 5 babies by Manuel a few days after Sybil kittened, but although she had no problems with the delivery she is a first time mum and found it all too much so neither she or the babies were settling down so her owner asked if I thought Sybil might take on a couple.

We took Sybil away from her babies an hour before the new arrivals were due so that she was very keen to get back to nurse them, This worked a treat and without so much as a second look she started feeding/cleaning all her babies.

One of the new kittens is always on the go, almost climbing out of the box, always wants the teat someone else has got and is generally causing trouble (no wonder his mum couldn't cope). I have named him Dangerous Brian. We were surprised at his appearance as not only does he have very little fur but he is white- not a colour we expected looking at his pedigree, but the biggest surprize was when his eyes opened- they are pink.

Getting more active

The title says it all. The puppies are now escaping on a regular basis, we came down this morning to find 7 of the 9 were running round our lounge- the other 2 were very cross at being left behind!

They are filling out well and are very cuddly now. The two boys have lovely homes waiting for them.

Purdies Family

The puppies are growing at an alarming rate. We have already had to increase the height of the whelping box to prevent escape! They are becoming real little characters now and are becoming increasingly vocal. They are enjoying attention from lots of visitors including small children.

Anyone interested in having one of these fantastic puppies is welcome to contact me, details on my website http://www.freewebs.com/itzapromise/
